Carbon and Water Reporting Initiative

The EICC Carbon and Water Reporting Initiative is a standard approach to measuring and reporting carbon emissions in the global electronics supply chain

The Initiative is a spreadsheet-based tool used by companies to quantify and share emissions and water data. It is based on global standards such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and established reporting formats such as the Carbon Disclosure Project. Use of the tool is free for members and their invited suppliers; other companies may access the tool for a fee. Upon agreement by the supplier, completed questionnaires are shared with those suppliers' customers who choose to participate in the program.

The Initiative integrates a standardized questionnaire for gathering quantitative carbon emissions, energy and water data, as well as qualitative information on suppliers' environmental management practices.

Example of data gathering in the Carbon and Water Reporting Initiative:

The Carbon and Water Reporting Initiative also includes an emissions calculator to support supplier companies that are new to calculating their carbon footprint. Completed questionnaires are shared with those suppliers' customers who choose to participate in the program.

Benefits of a standardized carbon reporting system include:

  • Reduced redundant requests for supplier environmental data.
  • Increased supply chain awareness on the importance of measuring and reporting carbon emissions data.
  • Providing a foundation for having informed, targeted discussions with suppliers about performance improvement.
